Quick guide for the Elecraft K2 hf tranceiver This is a portable low power tranceiver which covers 160 through 10 meters. Starting from the left, is a double column of three buttons each. Immediately under this column is the 8-pin mic jack, and a 1/8 inch headphone jack. Next to these toward the bottom is a double column of two knobs each. To the right of these is the main tuning knob. This is approximately centered in the front panel. At approximately the 5:00 position of the tuning knob is a single button. On the right side of the panel is a 9-key pad arranged like that on a touchtone phone. Under the keypad is a single knob, and the power button. This button is a latching pushbutton, and sticks out much further than all other buttons. Finally, above the bank of four knobs and the tuning knob is the display. Note: All k2 buttons accept for the power control, display, and zero have two functions. These are accessed by tapping the button, or holding it in for approximately 1 second. In the list below, the tap function will be followed by a colon ":" followed by the hold function. The first is the numeric digit when in direct entry mode; the second is the tap function; and finally the hold function. Direct entry mode is entered by pressing the band- and band+ buttons simultaneously. This can be a bit tricky, sometimes you get one or the other function. This however, will be readily apparent because you will not only hear it switch bands, but you will hear all the internal relays clicking. The first is band- + band+ mentioned above. This puts you in direct frequency entry mode. When in this mode, the only odity is for frequencies in the 160 meter band. When entering these frequencies, they must be preceded with the leading zero, i.e. 01810. There is no decimal point, frequencies can only be entered to the nearest kc. The second combination is pre/att + agc. This turns agc on or off. Rear panel Note this description is with the kat2 automatic antenna tuner installed.
